(Dieser hier war, glaub’ mir, solange er lebte, ein zweiter Luther. Das weißt du nicht? So gib mir doch einen ebenbürtigen Theologen auf der ganzen Welt! || Gelehrsamkeit und Frömmigkeit, unermüdliche Arbeitskraft und Kenntnisse sowie unwandelbarer Glaube waren in ihm gleichzeitig verbunden). Darunter die Lebensdaten „N[atus] 1528. 25. Mart. O[biit] 1590. 7. Jan.“ Über dem Oval flammendes Herz Jesu „Nil hoc Felicius Igne“ (Nichts ist glückbringender als dieses Feuer) zwischen Fruchtgehängen, in den Ecken 4 Emblemata (die beiden oberen in ov. Rahmung): o. l. „Fuit Huic Spes anchora Vitae“ [Anker], o. r. „Sic patientia crevit“ [Rose mit Dornen], u. l. „Mortem Honor iste secutus“ [Totenschädel mit Kronreif, aus dem Ähren wachsen], u. r. „Alijs servire paratus“ [brennende Kerze auf Buch]."
