Golflandschaft, l. mit quadratisch geschlossenen Reiterabteilungen u. Leuchtturm, r. mit reiterbesetzter Bogen- u. Schiffsbrücke u. Kriegsruderern. – Unter dem Bildrechteck „CALIGVLA“ sowie in 2 Kolumnen je 3 lat. Hexameter: Nec Deus es, nec homo, Cai, sub principe monstrum es, / Si qua Dicaearchas iunxisse est nauibus arces / Euboico laus parta iugo, at spolia ampla reportas // / Vilibus Oceani lectis in litore conchis: / Vtq[ue] tibi fuluo plausisti stratus in auro, / Sic quoq[ue] laeta tuo te sanguine Roma voluto est. (Weder ein Gott bist Du, noch ein Mensch, Caius, unter der Hülle des Kaisers bist Du ein Ungeheuer, wenn irgendein Ruhm damit gewonnen ist, die Höhen von Puteoli [Dicaearchea der alte griech. Name der Stadt] mit dem Hügel von Cumae [von Euböa aus gegründete griech. Kolonie] durch eine Schiffsbrücke zu verbinden [vgl. die Hintergrund-Darstellung]; doch glänzende Kriegsbeute bringst Du heim, // wenn Du wertlose Muscheln am Meeresstrand sammelst. Und wie Du, hingestreckt auf rötlichem Golde, Dir selber Beifall geklatscht hast, so war auch Rom froh, als Du Dich in Deinem Blute wälztest [vgl. die beiden Darstellungen im Denkmalssockel])."
