Verse von Heinrich Muhl(e) (1666–1733), Prof. theol. in Kiel [A 14672]: AXENII hic faciem, tam culti pectoris ora, / Queis niteat Phoebus, queis Themis ipsa, vides, / Qualem tot meritis insignem Cimbricus axis [Wortspiel mit dem Namen], / Suspexitque suum Curia et Aula decus. / Talem fama refert post fata; at sculpta tabella / Vix tenuis tanti creditur umbra viri. / Graeca Charis, Romana Venus, Germanaque Pitho / Dignius hic poterant nempe adhibere manus, / Rectius AXENIUM sic postera norit ut aetas, / Victuroque magis spiret in aere lepos. (Axens Antlitz, die Züge eines so gebildeten Geistes, daß mit ihnen Apoll und Themis selbst glänzen könnten, siehst du hier, || wie es – ausgezeichnet durch so viele Verdienste – das Schleswiger Land, Hof und Gericht als ihre Zierde verehrten. || Als solchen preist ihn der Ruhm nach seinem Tode; aber kaum kann man das gestochene Blatt für das geringe Schattenbild eines so großen Mannes halten. || Mit mehr Recht hätten wohl griechische Anmut, römische Eleganz und deutsche Beredtheit ihre Hand dazu bieten können, || daß so die Nachwelt Axen richtiger kenne und mehr Liebreiz in dem unvergänglichen Kupferstich atme)"
