Text aus den „Mémoires“ von Michel de Marolles (1600–1681) [A 13499]: „Il naquit dans le Palais Royal d’Édimbourg, d’un François issû d’Ancienne noblesse Éscossoise, dont | les belles qualitez meriterent l’estime et la protection de Marie de Lorraine, qui le donna à Jacques V. e | Roy d’Escosse Son Mary. François fut cheri du Roy Henry 3. e et de toute sa Cour, et sur tout du Chancelier | de Chiverny qui ne pût jamais le faire consentir à son agrandissement. Ses portraits sont souvent confondus | avec ceux de Janet auquel il succeda. Il composait fort bien l’histoire, et donna le 1. er Plan de Paris en 12 feuilles. | Son desinteressement luy fit également mépriser l’acquisition et la perte des biens de fortune, et sa modestie re= | fuser l’ordre de St. Michel sous Henry 4. e. Il joignit à une vertu vrayement chrestienne beaucoup d’experience et de | lecture, et mourut l’an 1619 aprés avoir reçû ses Sacrements qu’il demanda en santé 10 ou 12 heures avant | sa mort.“"
