A[nno S[alutis] R[edemptae] MDCLXXXI | RELICTA CIRCA AVSPICIA PRAESENTIS SECVLI | PATRIA CVM ROMAM ABIISSET | ILLVSTRIVM PICTORVM ARCHETYPA | INSOLITA FELICITATE CAELO IMITATVS | NOMINIS IMMORTALITATEM MERVIT“ (Jacob Frey, geboren in Luzern am 17. Febr. 1681, verdiente sich, nachdem er sein Vaterland zu Beginn dieses Jahrhunderts verlassen hatte und nach Rom ausgewandert war, die Unsterblichkeit seines Namens, indem er mit dem Grabstichel die Hauptwerke der berühmten Maler mit ungewöhnlich glücklicher Hand nachschuf)."
